Craftsman snowblower 536.881851 My husband had to restart it several times and the pullcord broke.?

The cord broke about 5 inches below the pull cord handle. It looks like 4 rivets how the cover down over the pull cord. Any suggestions on how to get this fixed or is it possible for him to repair himself?
