How do I become a hipster/indie person?

I definitely have the whole music down (love vampire weekend, MGMT, Phoenix, Beirut, Voxtrot...) but cannot get the whole persona. My brother suggested that if I try too hard to be indie, then I'm not cut out for it. Any suggestions? Hair, fashion and other tips would be appreciated.
